Leaks
This is a large subject and you will most likely need some professional advice from your local swimming pool engineer. There are, however some investigations which you can carry out which may help. At the least the results should help your pool engineer find the solution quicker.
Is the multi-port valve is leaking to waste?
Undo the union on the waste line and run the swimming pool pump, or check the outlet of the waste pipe. If water is dribbling from that pipe when the valve is set to "filter" you probably need a new valve.
Does the pool leak more with the pump running, less or the same? This could indicate pressure pipes, suction pipes, or the pool fittings or shell.
Make a note of any gardening or fencing work done near the swimming pool or in line with the pool equipment room.
Note how much water you lose when backwashing.
Make there are no cracks around plastic swimming pool fittings particularly the skimmers.
Check for subsidence around the pool and damp areas of garden.
Note if the swimming pool level has dropped below all the fittings except the main drain (sump). It could be the hydrostatic pressure relief valve leaking. Many swimming pools have a sprung valve in the sump which lets ground water into the swimming pool if the level of water in the pool is pumped lower than the water table around the pool. This prevents the swimming pool floating on the water table. (Not usually in liner pools.)
Make a note of your results and if you haven't solved the problem yourself, let your pool engineer have this information. It could save them time and you money.
I've had a constant leak at the top of my pump. I have changed the male adapter several times. It works for a while and then it leaks again. What should I do next?
Assuming that you're using PTFE tape or paste on the threads, it’s likely that you have stress on the fitting. If the pump and filter can't be secured to a pad, get a PVC Union fitted with a male adapter. The rubber seal will absorb a small amount of stress and keep the fitting water-tight. If that doesn't work, re-plumb the piping between the pump and the filter.
Also, make sure the pump is picking up the prime right away. A dry-running pump will cause enough heat to melt this fitting.
